There are two ways to edit building data: by uploading new data in the spreadsheet template or by editing data on the platform.
Using the Spreadsheet
Carbon Signal uses the building name as a unique identifier for each building. If you already have a building in your portfolio that has the same name as a building in your spreadsheet, you’ll have the option to update the existing building record with the new information when you upload the spreadsheet.
Selecting this option will create a new version of the building based on the data in the spreadsheet. For more information see Adding Buildings and Model Versioning. Using the spreadsheet is a great way to update buildings in bulk.
Editing in the App
If you need to edit the data for a specific building, you can open the building side panel and select Edit Building Data from the overflow menu. This will open a modal where you can edit general information like the building name and location, the monthly utility data, or the emissions factors.
If you change the building size, location, monthly energy use, or system assumptions, after hitting Save Carbon Signal will automatically create a new version of the building and update the model based on the new information. This process can take several minutes. If you need to undo changes, you can revert to a previous version of the building - see Model Versioning for more information.
